It is difficult to make it financially as a single mum in the best of times; so with the economy waning and the average person carrying more financial burden than they can actually afford, it is easy to become overwhelmed in financial difficulties. However, there is help. Here in the UK, we have a variety of assistance programmes available for single mums – however, you will have to work for them. Here are some options available to you:
• Single Mother Grant – the most sought after type of single mother assistance, grants give the illusion of being free and ‘without strings attached’. However, this is not the case. Often with grants come prerequisites. For instance, you may be required to perform community service as a volunteer in order to be eligible for your grant. However, if you are willing to work and willing to show yourself worthy, public and private grants are available.
• Loan – loans are generally less sought-after because they are 1) expensive and 2) must be repaid, usually with interest. If you are a single mum considering going back into education in order to better your position and lifestyle, a student loan is worth consideration. Unlike other types of loans, with most student loans, you do not have to begin paying them back until you have met a certain wage requirement.
• While other types of loans are available – mortgage loans, payday advances, and big business loans, etc. – it is unadvisable to seek these things unless you are assured of your ability to pay them back.
