Q:

I have recently split up from my husband of 8 years and am struggling to move forward in terms of our son, cash and the house where can I get advice that's free?

Q:

Well that’s a good question Sarah, Many of our members are facing the same issue. Our recommendation is that all efforts should be made to reduce any acrimonious feelings when splitting up from a long term partner, as tough as this may be it is in the best interest of the children involved. Mum and Dad sometimes need to temper any ill feeling they have for one another and reach a mutually agreeable situation for the children.
There are a number of options which can help you. Firstly the government has created a great new website called Child Maintenance Options which talks you through separation concerns and the options you have to move forward this can be found at www.cmoptions.org. Talking from personal experience it is far better to reach a private agreement than one imposed by the CSA. You can use the child maintenance calculator to identify a suitable sum of money and then work it out between you.
Should you feel the need to seek legal advice any lawyer will give you between half an hour to one hour of free consultation, but remember it can get expensive after that.
There are a wide range of websites that can give advice and support here are some of them:
